In 1992, Dave Davies and Gerry Goffin wrote "21st Century" together at a coffee shop in Los Angeles. It is a song about the then-upcoming new millennium, but eerily, the lyrics could have been written today. The Giving Groove is proud to present the first vinyl reissue of The Dead Milkmen’s classic album Metaphysical Graffiti, now remastered with bonus material. Fans have cherished hits such as "If You Love Somebody, Set Them on Fire" and "Methodist Coloring Book," but since the Enigma label’s initial release in 1990, copies of the original pressing have become increasingly difficult to unearth. The remastered album will be offered as a limited-edition variant, pressed exclusively for Record Store Day Black Friday 2022. Housed in a gatefold jacket, bonus materials will include:
• A reproduction of the Methodist Coloring Book. Penned by Dean Clean’s wife, Melissa, the coloring book was printed as a promotional item for the 1990 release and has never been made commercially available.
• Four of the album’s songs, which the band loving refers to as “The Earls,” have been pulled from the 12” and given their own 7” vinyl (pressed on snot-colored brown and green variants) with new artwork.
• An interior jacket designed with never-before-seen photos, text about the model house that is featured on the front cover, and Dandrew’s recounting: "Everything I Needed to Know About Culture I Learned from Metaphysical Graffiti”.
• The 12” sleeve featuring the original art, lyrics, and credits.

“All of our albums have Business in the title,” Smith explains. “Now that we’re in a new era and the game is changed, we realize that it’s different from when we handed in a CD to our first label to being at Def Jam. Erick and I created our own vehicle to be able to drop this album. That’s how we came with the title We Mean Business, because we do.”

EPMD updates its classic sound and sentiment on “Listen Up,” a funk-drenched song complete with a talk box and featuring the one and only Mr. Teddy Riley. Released in 1974, Aqua is the first solo album by Tangerine Dream's frontman Edgar Froese. It is known as his most influential release as his entire advance was invested in the acquisition and development of the then-unknown sequencers and modular synthesisers. “Aqua is a work of creation that has opened many doors to the sound exploration and to the parameters in a fusion between abstract and harmony". This release has been out of print on vinyl until now. Regarded as one of several standouts from the band’s landmark fall ‘91 tour, this stop in Hampton is certainly worthy of its lore. In addition to having all the hallmarks of a quintessential latter era Jerry Garcia Band performance, this night featured a very special guest: Virginia’s own Bruce Hornsby, joining on electric piano for the first and only time. The setlist is typically well-balanced, mixing road-tested staples, like the show opening “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” along with more recent additions to Garcia’s songbook like Van Morrison’s “Bright Side of the Road” and the show-closing “What A Wonderful World.” Playing with Hornsby always seemed to ignite a spark within Garcia and this proved to be no exception with their potent chemistry fueling lively versions of  “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox,” “You Never Can Tell (C’est La Vie)” and “Midnight Moonlight.”

The collection is pressed to five 180gram LPs in a limited edition of 7,500 and housed in a deluxe clamshell box featuring new artwork by Graham Yarrington.

This RSD Black Friday release brings together four studio demo sessions from The Heartbreakers (Johnny Thunders, Walter Lure, Billy Rath & Jerry Nolan) from 1976 and 1977, compiled onto one album for the first time.

Two sessions were recorded in 1976 in New York, including four tracks in their early incarnation with Richard Hell, and later six tracks after Billy Rath had joined on bass. In London in 1977, they recorded one session just prior to signing with Track Records, and another after L.A.M.F. had been released, with The Clash’s Terry Chimes on drums replacing the newly departed Jerry Nolan.

Pressed on transparent magenta vinyl, this release comes with a 12” poster of the Roberta Bayley cover photo, an outtake from the L.A.M.F. cover session, and an inner bag with Walter Lure interviewed by Johnny Thunders’ biographer Nina Antonia in 2005. The album shows the development of the band building towards their classic 1977 ‘L.A.M.F.’ album (recently reissued with a newly found original master), and further points to the direction they would have gone had they not split up.

Burning Desire is part of Dagger Records’ authorized Jimi Hendrix ‘bootleg’ releases.  Mixed by Eddie Kramer, the collection presents compelling examples of Jimi’s remarkable creative explorations through 1969 and early 1970.  In the shadow of Electric Ladyland, the original Jimi Hendrix Experience struggled to remain a cohesive unit and Jimi’s ceaseless creative pursuit would lead to experimental sessions with bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles and ambitious attempts to integrate fresh musical elements.  On these studio recordings, Jimi can be heard developing exciting new material such as “Ezy Ryder,” “Cherokee Mist,” “Villanova Junction Blues,” “Izabella,” and “Burning Desire.”  Burning Desire was originally released on CD via mail order only, seeing it’s only LP release on black vinyl as part of a previous RSD Black Friday event. The double LP will now be available for the first time since, pressed on Translucent Orange and Red vinyl by QRP as part of the new RSD Encores series revisiting popular releases from past Record Store Day and RSD Black Friday releases.

The sixth album from Hot Tuna (Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and Bob Steeler) would become one of the hardest rocking album ever in the power trio’s large catalog of blues/rock projects over the last five decades. Released in 1975, Yellow Fever would become a fan favorite with tracks like Jimmy Reed's "Baby What You Want Me To Do" as well as plenty of hard blues rockers from Jorma Kaukonen like "Bar Room Crystal Ball" "Song For The Fire Maiden" and "Free Rein." Despite being one of Memphis’s most long-running, prolific and popular gospel groups, The Jubilee Hummingbirds’ story remains largely unwritten. Early members O.V. Wright and James Carr — both of whom crossed over into secular music while singing with The Jubilee Hummingbirds — have guaranteed their mention in soul circles, but for a group with such a presence in their home city, and a generous multi-label discography that began on wax in the mid-‘60s and continues to this day, the Hummingbirds are a living, breathing example of the ever-present yet invisible place that gospel music, by its very design, can occupy.

Their 1983 LP, Gospel Express, was just one chapter in the rich history of The Jubilee Hummingbirds, but a significant one that deserves a deep focus. They were a little over halfway through their eighty-four-years-and-counting history when these recordings were made and they’re still singing today, now under the leadership of William "Redd" Watson. In 1983, shortly after Watson joined the group the ‘Birds landed on Bishop Bobby King’s Gospel Express imprint. The vinyl-hustling enigma behind such street-level setups as Hub-City and Home-Boys, King was a ghetto gospel impresario who went by so many different names that much of his activity is still a mystery. King’s calling card was the cut-and-paste album cover, which was almost ahead of its time in its crudely-collaged aesthetic. Gospel Express is being given a second lease on life in this RSD Black Friday edition.

JORMA - Guitarist for Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Grammy Award Winner one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top All Time Greatest Guitarists. Too Many Years is a Jorma Kaukonen studio album released in August 1998, his last on Relix Records. Michael Falzarano returned to play guitar and help produce (as he did on the previous Kaukonen solo album). He also sang lead on several tracks. The keyboard work was handled by former Jefferson Starship keyboardist Pete Sears, who had been playing with Hot Tuna since 1992. This deluxe package includes an OBI strip, Gatefold album jacket with two pockets, two printed inner sleeves (unique for this release), new record labels and two discs: one blue/black and one brown/black smoke vinyl.

This vinyl reissue celebrates the 40th anniversary of Madonna’s debut single, “Everybody,” released on October 6, 1982. Originally produced by Mark Kamins, the single includes 12” and dub versions of the track, both newly remastered. Also features brand new sleeve artwork, exclusive to this anniversary release.    

Havoc and Bright Lights marked a rebirth for Alanis Morissette, the first album she recorded as a newlywed mother. Delivered a full eight years later, Such Pretty Forks in the Road is the second act of the story, an album about learning how to find contentment at middle age. Morissette wrestles anxieties, origin stories, addictions, parenthood, and partnership throughout the record, searching for reasons and a diagnosis, achieving a sense of peace with having her sense of calm being disturbed on occasion. Appropriately for an album that's decidedly focused on an inward journey, Such Pretty Forks in the Road simmers, never boils. Hooks force themselves into the center stage on "Reasons I Drink" -- the rare tune here that could be called catchy -- but otherwise melody takes a back seat to mood. This doesn't necessarily mean Morissette's words are pushed into the spotlight. Such Pretty Forks in the Road is lacquered in immaculate gloss, a sound that accentuates the interior journey of the songs without quite inviting exploration. A close listen reveals all the troubles rolling around Morissette's mind, but the nice thing about Such Pretty Forks in the Road is how its smooth, placid surface makes the record feel like an album-length guided serenity meditation.

In 1984, Willie Nelson was at the height of his popularity, having racked up sixteen #1 country hits over the previous decade and crossing over to the pop charts multiple times, while starring in a series of hit movies and becoming one of the most recognized figures in popular culture. He united fans across genres and generations and his live shows had become legendary. In February of that year, he performed in Tokyo to kick off a five-city tour that marked his first time playing in Japan, showing how global his appeal had become. The first shows were at the Budokan, the legendary martial arts hall. The February 23rd show was recorded and filmed for broadcast, eventually seeing release only in Japan, as a laser disc. That video was never released anywhere else and the audio was never released at all… until now. Back by popular demand, this vinyl reissue of Truth, Liberty & Soul - Live In NYC: The Complete 1982 NPR Jazz Alive! Recorded at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City on June 27, 1982, as part of George Wein’s Kool Jazz Festival, it features Jaco leading a 22-piece big band with a congregation of the top jazz musicians on the New York scene at the time such as Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Jon Faddis, Frank Wess, Lew Soloff, Howard Johnson, and legendary harmonica player Toots Thielemans. It showcases Jaco’s brilliant compositions for large ensembles with the electric energy of a live performance.

A portion of the concert was broadcast on the NPR program Jazz Alive! in 1982 and has been available on unofficial bootlegs, but this is the first official release authorized by the Jaco Pastorius estate and contains an additional 40 minutes which never aired. Culled from the original 24-track tape reels, this is the complete concert from start-to-finish with the sound meticulously restored and mastered by the original GRAMMY-winning recording engineer from the broadcast, Paul Blakemore. Recording has been mastered by the legendary Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio.
